The Poor Patients Aid Society is a volunteer, non-political, non-sectarian and non profitable charity organization registered & Tax Exempted organization established by a committed group of individuals in 1985 and registered with the Department of Social Welfare to help and benefit the poor and non affording patients coming to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Renowned social worker Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi N.I was there first elected President of the society and subsequently become its patron in Chief. The funding members were Justice A. Hafeez Memon, Late Justice B G M Qazi, Late Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khan – Economist, Dr. Aftab Ahmed Qureshi, Dr. Hussain Bux Memon, Late Prof. Razia Latif Ansari, Dr. Zohra Agha, Begum Hameeda Naqvi, Dr. G. N. Qazi, Miss Salma Lari and Prof.  A. Ghaffar Billo. Some of the 1st presidents have been eminent personalities like Mr. Saeed Ahmad, Mr. Hakim Muhammad Ahsan, and Late Prof. Ehsan Rahseed.
